It said something about our society when the ratings for TLC's hit new show "Here Comes Honey Boo Boo" were higher than those for last week's Republican National Convention.

The show, featuring seven-year-old breakout "Toddlers & Tiaras" star Alana Thompson and her self-proclaimed "redneck" family, garnered three million viewers for the August 29 episode alone—up 30 percent from the previous week.

But with all of the Thompson family's recent success and newfound fame, they are hardly being compensated for letting cameras capture their every move at home in McIntyre, Ga.

The family of six earn just $2,000 to $4,000 per episode, plus a small location fee for filming in the family's home, total ling an estimated $40,000 for the 10-episode debut season, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

To put the salary into perspective, the Landry family on "Swamp People" reportedly earn $25,000 per episode, while reality TV family the Kardashians bank at least $10 million per year.

A rep for TLC tells THR that the network does not comment on salaries.

Not that the family is objecting to the extra income, as young "beauty queen" Alana recently stated on the show "a dolla makes me holla, honey boo boo!"
