The first trailer for the new season of "Community" is here, and it looks like the show may be returning to its stride.

The entire trailer plays out as a parody of Marvel's trailer for "The Avengers: Age of Ultron," referring to the series return as "Community: Age of Yahoo."

Yahoo picked up a sixth season of the comedy after NBC cancelled the show.

Season six of “Community” will premiere exclusively on Yahoo March 17.

Pussy Riot makes a bold cameo in 'House of Cards' season 3

pussy riot house of cardsWarning: If you're not caught up with season 3, episode 3 of "House of Cards," there are spoilers ahead.

A big subplot in season three of Netflix’s "House of Cards" is Frank Underwood’s (Kevin Spacey) relationship with Russian president Victor Petrov (Lars Mikkelsen).

The first time the two cross paths is in episode 3 when Petrov visits the White House in an episode chock full of goodies like vodka shots, beer pong, and Petrov kissing Claire Underwood (in front of Frank!). But it’s the sudden appearance of the two members from feminist punk rock group Pussy Riot at the White House that perked our ears.

As the season progresses, more and more storylines from real headlines are sprinkled into the plot, but the appearance of Nadezhda Tolokonnikova and Maria Alyokhina is one of the most rewarding.

The punk rockers who served jail time for criticizing real Russian president Vladimir Putin in 2012 make for perfect casting, though their invite to that kind of presidential event is perhaps not as likely in real life

The ladies, along with a translator, are guests at a dinner President Underwood throws for Petrov and his colleagues.

Things start out okay as the duo shakes hands with Petrov.

After asking Petrov if he discussed any of their issues and concerns with President Underwood, the mood slightly changes, and the group pose for an awkward press photo.

When the ladies later go to make a toast, they instead voice their displeasure with Petrov.

"To Viktor Petrov, whose loyalty runs so deep, he's given his friends half of the country." says Tolokonnikova

"Who's so open to criticism, that most of his critics are in prison," adds Alyokhina.

Another final comment toward Petrov from Tolokonnikova goes untranslated in the episode.

Petrov looks clearly bothered and annoyed by their outburst.

A request from the Russian leader to stop, sit down, and "drink and laugh, like true Russians do" causes the trio to pour out their drinks, drop their glassware, and storm out of the dinner.

The stunt works perfectly for Underwood. Failing to find a middle ground with Petrov on anything, he uses their actions in his speech following the dinner as an “eye opening” moment to why he won’t corporate with Russia.

Along with the cameo, Tolokonnikova and Alyokhina told Russian opposition magazine The New Times that "House of Cards" creator Beau Willimon wanted them to also write a song.

“We wrote for them an international English-language song ‘Don't Cry Genocide,’” said Tolokonnikova. “Which is devoted to the militarization of society and to American drones in particular."

She added, “It was hard as hell to learn all these English phrases.”

Here’s the music video from their “Don’t Cry Genocide” song that played during the end credits of episode 3.

Here's how "The Big Bang Theory" honored Leonard Nimoy

If you watch “The Big Bang Theory," you'll know the CBS hit series regularly references "Star Trek" actor Leonard Nimoy.

Lead character Sheldon (Jim Parsons) is obsessed with Nimoy. On one episode, Penny (Kaley Cuoco) gave Sheldon a used napkin signed by the actor.

Nimoy even guest-starred in a season 5 episode, voicing a tiny action-figure Spock.

After the actor passed away February 27, Thursday's episode of "The Big Bang Theory" paid tribute to the actor, ending on a portrait of Nimoy with the caption "The impact you had on our show and our lives is everlasting."

Here's how it appeared on screen:

The show's social media accounts followed suit with Sheldon giving the "Star Trek" Vulcan salute that Nimoy popularized on the series.

NBC just moved 'Hannibal' from the Friday night death slot

"Hannibal" fans have been waiting a long time to learn when season 3 of the cult favorite will return.

Well, we finally have a date!

The series, featuring Mads Mikkelsen and Hugh Dancy, will return to NBC June 4, 2015.

Yes, that means "Hannibal" is moving from the dreaded Friday night death slot to Thursdays evenings.

As we noted back in July, the series about the twisted serial killer (Mikkelsen) gets high praise from critics. It also has a strong fan following referred to as fannibals. However, barely anyone has been tuning into the show Friday nights at 10 p.m.

The schedule move will return the series to its original timeslot when it first aired in 2013 when ratings were slightly higher. Maybe a return to that block will help the cult favorite hit its stride.

It's time to feast, fannibals.

SNL's incredible rant about what's wrong with NYC

Leslie Jones SNL Saturday Night Live

It's been a long winter for New Yorkers, and "Saturday Night Live" cast member Leslie Jones has had enough of the cold, among other things.

Jones, who moved from Los Angeles to New York to join "SNL" last year, expressed her many issues with the city on last night's "Weekend Update."

She first took issue with how much walking New Yorkers do:

Everything is hard in New York. Why does it need to be this cold? Why? And I'm tired of walking. I gotta stretch before I even go to the store. And New Yorkers don't know how to give directions, a 'couple of blocks' ends up being FIVE MILES. I went to meet a man at a restaurant that you New Yorkers say 'is a couple of blocks' and I almost froze to death like Jack Nicholson in 'The Shining.' These avenues is killing a bitch. Lord, why does the avenues have to be longer than the blocks? I've been on Fifth Avenue for ten hours! When is it going to turn to Sixth?

And stop trying to explain this East/West stuff to me, okay? Because I'm not going to get it. The last East/West thing I understood was Biggie and Tupac and that did not end well.

She then tackled the dirty subways:

And the subway? The subway just nasty. I was standing on the subway platform one day and a breeze came through and I wanted to kill EVERYBODY. Did rat feces dust just fly into my mouth? And my date, this guy who I thought I liked, is standing there like 'Ooo doesn't the breeze feel good?' and I'm like, 'No, shut up. We just died here, we just caught rat AIDS.'

Here’s how much improv is on Netflix’s new show ‘Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’

kimmy schmidt

The first season of “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” premiered on Netflix March 6.

The Tina Fey comedy follows a group of women saved from a Doomsday cult.

Business Insider recently attended a preview event of the series a few weeks back in New York City where cast members Jane Krakowski, Ellie Kemper, and Tituss Burgess divulged a bit about the series afterward in a Q&A.

While a few parts in the show were improvised, Krakowski said much of the comedy stays true to the script.

“I was asked this question a lot also with ’30 Rock,’ said Krakowski. “I think people … because of Tina’s background with ‘Second City’ and ‘SNL’ ... [thought] that there was a lot of improvised stuff.”

“It’s actually not quite improvised,” she continued. “It is very by the book. And if you make something up, you know, they always just ask you to do it the way it was originally written first.”

In contrast, Kemper said "The Office" was much more improvised, which may not surprise those who watched the comedy.

"'The Office’ was more improvised because it’s a different pace," said Kemper. "There’s longer moments to breathe, and people would improvise I think a bit more."

"Here, just in my experience working with [series creators] Tina [Fey] and Robert [Carlock], every word does matter so much," she added. "There’s so many words to fit into a line. If I ever improvised, it was just messing up a line. It wasn’t … it was just getting the words wrong."

Kemper said her costar Burgess, who plays her roommate Titus, on the series improvised a few times.

“There’s so much to say or the sentences are so run-on. We would mess up all the time. Any improvisation was absolutely something that we got incorrect.”

titus unbreakable kimmy schmidtOne area where Burgess was given freedom was with music on the show. His character, an aspiring Broadway hopeful, breaks out in songs from “Boyz II Men” and Katy Perry among other artists in the series first 13 episodes.

“That I was able to do whatever I wanted on,” he added.

Burgess didn’t want to spoil much about the series’ later episodes but said when it came to music “lots of things I get to improvise on.”

PlayStation's first original show is a dark, gritty superhero series for adults

powers playstation

You know “Powers” isn’t for kids right out of the gate.

In the first six minutes of PlayStation’s first original series, you’re introduced to sex, drugs, and an unusual homicide.

Based off the graphic novel of the same name, “Powers” is essentially a superhero show for adults.

However, unlike the CW’s DC Comics adaptations of “Arrow” and “The Flash,” the series doesn’t try to put heroes up on a pedestal.

The series is gritty, it’s dark, it’s a little vulgar, and it’s not for the squeamish.

“Powers” takes place in a world where heroes and villains with powers co-exist out in the open with everyone else.

However, instead of following a character with powers, the show revolves around Christian Walker (Sharlto Copley) a former superhero who lost his abilities.

Now, he’s a star detective at Powers Division, a group which investigates cases involving people with super abilities.

On the surface level, “Powers” is a cop procedural taking place in a world with heroes and villains.

Take a deeper dive, and the series explores the celebrity status that comes with having abilities, for better or worse. In a culture that has become flooded with superhero TV shows, video games, and films, "Powers" plays out like a behind-the-music look at superheroes and villains.

powers sharlto copleyFor Walker, the series also heavily deals with the question of what it means to be powerless.

After viewing the first three episodes of the series, which will premiere on PlayStation Tuesday, “Powers” feels a lot like NBC’s former superhero hit “Heroes” meets “CSI.” For fans of the former, it's the dirtier, grittier version of "Heroes" you wanted.

While the two shows don't have much in common plotwise, there's one undeniable resemblance between the two.

One character introduced in the pilot of “Powers,” a blonde with blue eyes named Calista (Olesya Rulin) looks like a deadringer for then-“Heroes” star Hayden Panettiere, right down to red-and-white cheerleader outfit seen in the premiere. “Heroes” revolved around the phrase, “Save the cheerleader, save the world.”

In the same vein, if you’ve never heard of or have read “Powers,” the first few episodes revolve around a number of superheroes becoming obsessed with Calista. The end of the first episode of “Powers” even bears resemblance to a famous scene from the “Heroes” pilot that I won’t spoil here.

claire calista heroes powersFor fans who can’t wait for NBC’s reboot of its popular superhero series later this year, “Powers” may be a great alternative.

“Powers” itself has taken a long time to make its way to the small screen. The series has been in development for over a decade. At one point, FX was going to air the series. A pilot was even filmed.

PlayStation has been looking for an original series for the past three years. According to John Koller, vice president of marketing at Sony PlayStation, “Powers” has been in the works there since 2012.

Superhero TV shows are not an easy genre to crack.

Right now, the CW is on a roll with adaptations of “Arrow” and “The Flash." CBS has a "Supergirl” series in the works.

However, previous shows like 2002's “Birds of Prey” and ABC’s 2010 dramedy “No Ordinary Family” were quickly cancelled.

So it will be interesting to see how viewers take to PlayStation’s first original TV show, “Powers.”

That’s something the people over at PlayStation seem well aware of.

“Our entire goal on this is to do what’s best for the gaming community,” says Koller. “It’s why you haven’t noticed us talking about multiple series or other types of content or other things. We’re very much focused on ‘Powers.’ We want to see, ‘Does this appeal?’ ‘Does original content appeal?’ And does this kind of theme appeal to our community? We think it does. The research shows that it does.”

The first three episodes of the series premiere on the PlayStation network Tuesday, March 10.

The entire series will be free to PlayStation Plus members in the U.S. who pay for the system’s subscription service which costs $49.99 per yearThe series is only currently available in the US for Plus members.

If you don’t own a PlayStation or access to the Plus service, you will be able to purchase “Powers” online. Episodes will cost $1.99 for standard viewing and $2.99 for HD.

The first episode will be widely available to stream free on YouTube.

powers sharlto copley

Tuesday, PlayStation will launch its first original series "Powers," across its PlayStation Network.

Based on the graphic novel of the same name, "Powers" will follow Detective Christian Walker (Sharlto Copley), a former superhero investigating cases in a world where heroes and villains run amok.

The series comes as Sony looks to tap into its world of gamers to test the viability of an original show.

Business Insider spoke with Sony PlayStation's vice president of marketing John Koller who tells us they went all in on the budget for the series.

"We wanted to provide the highest-level of production possible," says Koller. "We went to 'House of Cards' level, 'Breaking Bad' level, I guess 'Orange is the New Black' — those per episode levels is what we're at for 'Powers.'"

Here are the estimated budgets for those three series:

"House of Cards": reportedly started at $4.5 million/episode and ended up higher than that
"Breaking Bad": Variety reported the AMC hit cost $3 million/episode
"Orange is the New Black": estimates put the budget at under $4 million/episode

According to CAA agent Peter Micilli, Netflix's cheapest series costs $3.8 million an episode to make, according to his estimates.

That likely places "Powers" budget per episode between $3 million and $4 million an episode.

Season one of the series will include 10 episodes, which would put the season's production budget between $30 million and $40 million.

"We wanted to go to those levels," Koller explained. "It's critically important, particularly for the theme that we're going for with superheroes. It's challenging to go below that number on a VFX [visual effects] basis and other things coming in less expensively."

"Every effort's being put to the highest quality here," he added.

"Powers" will be released on PlayStation network in the US Tuesday, March 10.

The first episode will be available free for everyone, and will also stream on YouTube.

A bunch of big actors make surprise cameos on 'Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt'

unbreakable kimmy schmidt

Warning: There are major spoilers below if you haven't finished "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt."

Netflix launched the first season of Tina Fey's new show "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt," March 6 to much hype and strong reviews

The series follows a group of women saved from a Doomsday cult in Indiana.

Fey's previous series, "30 Rock," never skimped on guest stars, hosting comedy legends (Jerry Seinfeld), former vice presidents (Al Gore), and Oprah.

So, it's no surprise that "Kimmy Schmidt" also includes a slew of surprise guest stars who play characters with pretty silly names.

Here are a few of the celebrities, actors, and comedians who show up on "Schmidt" ranked from least surprising to most.

7. Matt Lauer

Lauer Kimmy Schmidt

Given that it was set at Rockefeller Plaza, "30 Rock" was filled with NBC crossovers. Lauer, playing himself here, is the first one to interview the Indiana Mole Women after they are released from an underground Doomsday bunker. "Kimmy Schmidt" was originally shot for NBC before being picked up by Netflix, so its not a huge surprise to see Lauer here.

6. Nick Kroll

Nick Kroll is one of comedy's rising stars. His brilliant "Kroll Show" on Comedy Central is in the midst of its final season. Kroll shows up in episode 11 as a fitness instructor named Tristafé.

5. Kiernan Shipka

Kiernan Shipka

Viewers may have been surprised during the episode "Kimmy Has a Birthday!" that when we were introduced to Kimmy's half-sister Kymmi (basically the same name with a spelling variation) that we were staring at Shipka who is best known for her role as Sally Draper on "Mad Men."

4. Martin Short

martin short unbreakable kimmy schmidtShort is coming off the release of his autobiography, a stint on Fox's now-cancelled "Mulaney," and a scene-stealing role in "Inherent Vice." Short once again steals the spotlight as plastic surgeon Dr. Franff when he's introduced in the show's fourth episode.

3. Dean Norris

Our jaws dropped when the "Breaking Bad" star stepped out of the shadows in episode ten. Norris made an appearance to play Titus' (Tituss Burgess) acting coach, Le Loup, on the series.

Since we were near the end of season one, we figured the cameos couldn't get any better. We were wrong.

2. Tina Fey

In case you all missed Liz Lemon, Fey pops up in her own show as an incompetent lawyer tasked with defending the Mole Women in court during the season's final stretch.

Hamm may be best known as Don Draper in AMC's drama "Mad Men," yet his various hosting stints on "Saturday Night Live" and appearances in "Bridesmaids" and "Parks and Rec" have earned him a reputation as a comedic star.

Hopefully, we'll see more of him in season 2.

Netflix's new comedy, "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt," debuted on the streaming service March 6.

Originally, the Tina Fey and Robert Carlock comedy was set to air on NBC.

After the network passed, Netflix picked up the show for two seasons.

So it's not a big surprise that there were some changes when the series moved from broadcast to online.

At a recent screening of the series in New York City, we asked stars Ellie Kemper, Jane Krakowski, and Tituss Burgess how "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt" is different on Netflix.

Kemper noted that the move to Netflix took place after mostly everything was shot for the series on NBC, but Krakowski and Burgess said there were definitely some changes made to the final version we see on the streaming site now.

"They put some stuff back, but just because there was more time," said Burgess.

"I think they did go back and try to breathe some of the jokes that we either cut for time, is what we’ve heard from Tina and Carlock," added Krakowski. "Jokes that didn’t make it past some of the censors made it back in. Now that we have that freedom."

Netflix chief communications officer Jonathan Friedland added, "It's a little saucier."

While the cast dished about their favorite lines from the series during a panel Q&A, they revealed a few items that never would have aired on NBC.

"I have a dog named Abattoir, and Ellie's character says, 'Mrs. Voorhees, I'm not sure, but I'm a little worried because Abattoir hasn't gone to the bathroom in days,'" says Krakowski. "And I said, 'Oh honey, don't worry about that. They bred that out years ago.'"

" ... Which I never thought would have made it into the final cut," added Krakowski. "But now that we're on Netflix, they'll all make it."

Burgess recalled his risque song "Pinot Noir" which is not about wine.

"I was certain we would never make it to NBC after that, but here we are," said Burgess.

tituss burgess unbreakable kimmy schmidtIt's also tough to imagine Kemper's favorite line, which she says to Krakowski's character, "Your a--s is really responding to the laser," would have seen the light of day on broadcast television.

All 13 episodes of "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt" are on Netflix now.

How a YouTube sensation made the catchy theme song for ‘Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’

kimmyschmidttheme

In the DVR-obsessed world we live in, one of the major casualties has been the opening theme songs of TV shows. After you've heard it once or twice, you’re fast-forwarding to the start of the episode without hesitation.

But with Tina Fey’s NBC-reject-turned-Netflix-gem“Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” we can’t get enough of the auto-tune opening.

If you’re not watching the show (What, why aren’t you?), the first episode opens with Kimmy Schmidt (Ellie Kemper) and her fellow cult members rescued by law enforcement from an underground bunker they’ve been living in for 15 years. With news reporters on site, one turns to interview an eye witness of the rescue, Walter Bankston, and in homage to famous meme Antoine “Bed Intruder” Dodson, his editorial of what went down becomes auto-tune gold … and the opening of every “Schmidt” episode.

Here’s Bankston’s interview:

Here it is auto-tune’d:

The auto-tune is from The Gregory Brothers, who are behind the YouTube series, Songify the News (aka Auto-tune the News). According to Indiewire, Fey and co-creator Robert Carlock always had an auto-tune theme in mind and reached out to The Gregory Brothers.

"They asked us to work on that video so that it had the look and feel and sound of something we might do on YouTube,” The Gregory Brother’s Evan Gregory told Indiewire. “The music and melody for the show theme was already composed by Jeff Richmond (Fey’s husband and composer), so we were able to come in and augment it, and add key elements of songification to achieve maximum catchiness."

If you can’t get enough of the song, someone on Tumblr mixed the opening theme with the music from the closing credits to produce a longer version. Netflix has since released a full clip on YouTube

After more than 550 episodes and nearly three decades on the air, it's pretty safe to say that "The Simpsons" is the most successful cartoon show ever to hit television. It's also the longest-running.

Matt Groening is at the center of it all, the show's creator from the start. He's been executive producer the entire run along with James L. Brooks.

But even more visible are the actors that play these beloved characters. And it's not all about Homer, Bart, and Lisa. The Simpsons universe is incredibly vast.

The folks at dadavis recently put together this awesome infographic that breaks down what voice actors play what characters on the show — and it may blow your mind a little bit.

Here's how Danny DeVito saved 'It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia' from getting canceled

its always sunny in philadelphia cast

"It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" is in the midst of its 10th season, making it one of the longest-running live-action comedy shows in television history.

But the show's success almost didn't happen if not for a strange bit of luck, brought upon by its network, FX.

Rob McElhenney, Glenn Howerton, and Charlie Day are the creators, writers, actors, and producers of the show, but when they were starting out in 2006, they weren't big enough names to draw in audiences.

McElhenney and Howerton recently joined The Nerdist podcast and explained that after a first season with low ratings, FX gave them an ultimatum: add a star name to bring in audiences or the show is over.

McElhenney recalled the conversation:

"So, John Langroff, who's the president of FX, he called me in for a meeting and was like, 'Hey, no one's watching the show, but we love it, we wanna keep it on, but we don't have any money for marketing, and we need to add somebody with some panache that we can hopefully parlay into some public relations story, just so we can get people talking.'"

McElhenney continues, saying he, Howerton, and Day were hesitant to add a big name and change the way they were writing and making the show. He says FX threw around some names, including Danny DeVito.

Danny Devito

"It's not that we were reticent to the idea of adding Danny to the show," explains Howerton, "it's that we were reticent to add a name to the show. You know, because we kinda liked that we were no-names and it was this weird, small thing, you know."

McElhenney says they told FX: "No, I just don't think we wanna do that, and they were like, 'Oh OK, well, you know... the show's over.'"

McElhenney, Howerton, and Day then opened up to the idea and talked to DeVito, who apparently already knew about the show because his kids watched it.

Howerton says DeVito was perfect for the role because he had played so many "despicable characters," but had a warmth underneath that they felt fit the show's tone.

DeVito joined the show for the second season, playing Frank Reynolds, the legal father of twins Dennis and Sweet Dee.

In 2014, Entertainment Weekly ranked "It's Always Sunny" No. 7 on its list of the "26 Best Cult TV Shows Ever," noting, "it's a great underdog story ... If it sounds too dark for you, consider that there's an episode about making mittens for kittens, and it's adorable."

One of the main actors on ‘Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’ almost wasn’t on the show

jane krakowski unbreakable kimmy schmidt

It's hard to imagine Netflix's new show "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt" without Jane Krakowski.

The 46-year-old actress plays one of the series' outspoken leads, the wealthy Jacqueline Voorhees, who hires Schmidt (Ellie Kemper) as a nanny.

However, Krakowski nearly wasn't on the Netflix series. She was a last minute addition.

The actress was originally set to appear on a different comedy over on Fox called "Dead Boss" until the network decided not to move forward with it.

In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the actress explained how she was added to "Unbreakable" only five days before the then-NBC comedy was previewed at the network's upfronts event for advertisers.

"I got that dreaded call on a Wednesday afternoon from the producer and creator of Dead Boss that it was not going to get picked up," Krakowski told THR. "I was sitting at my desk chair, wondering who from the cast I was going to call first to commiserate, and within an hour I got the call from Tina."

From there, filming for "Unbreakable" moved pretty quickly.

"I got fitted on Friday, I filmed on Saturday and they inserted scenes of mine from the upfront package," said Krakowski.

The actress likened the initial taping of her character as "guerilla-style" with a green screen.

"I just stood on a platform," Krakowski explained to THR. "There were no actors there, but I read the scene with a stand in and script supervisor. They just pasted me in, and I started filming a few weeks later. I really didn't even know who I was playing. It was that quick. We filmed it properly again once I knew where everything was going."

During a recent Q&A for the series Business Insider attended, Krakowski divulged more on her last minute addition.

"I was not in the original pilot, and so I was shown selective scenes after I had gotten hired and said yes," said Krakowski. "They didn't want to play me everything because they were going to redo bits and sort of work towards that."

netflix unbreakable kimmy schmidt today showShe said there was one moment where she was sold on joining the series.

"They showed me the very first scene when they go to the 'Today' show," Krakowski continued. "The minute that PA [production assistant] goes, 'Thank you, victims,' I was like, 'You can stop the tape. I'm in.' It was so up my alley."

Six ways that Tina Fey's new show 'Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt' is just like '30 Rock'

"30 Rock" fans rejoiced when it was announced Tina Fey and Robert Carlock would reunite on new comedy, "The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt."

Since "Kimmy Schmidt" just hit Netflix on March 6, it's too early to tell whether the show can live up to the success of "30 Rock," which ran for seven seasons and won the Emmy for best comedy series three years in a row. But after just one season, "Kimmy Schmidt" already stands on its own, thanks to its A-list cameosquirky humor, and a catchy theme song.

But hardcore "30 Rock" fans may have spotted a joke or two that echoed moments from Fey's other great sitcom.

Here are six of the most obvious "30 Rock" references in season one of "The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt."

1. The Jokes

Even if the dialogue sometimes comes off like improv, "Kimmy Schmidt" is very tightly scripted. Like "30 Rock" before it, there's plenty of quirky one-liners.

From "30 Rock":

And from "Kimmy Schmidt":

2. The Music

Mixed with the New York scenery, the show's jazzy score might give you some serious "30 Rock" flashbacks. It was also composed by Fey's husband Jeff Richmond, who also directed several episodes of "Kimmy Schmidt."

3. Language Misinterpretation

The comedically correct term for this would be "double-talk," something Fey seems to relish in. There are a lot of characters here who get Spanish wrong the same way Jack Donaghy's French sounded more like gibberish and Liz Lemon didn't remember as much German as she thought she did.

"Kimmy Schmidt" had a lot of fun with a cast of characters who could not understand a word of Spanish:

4. "Can I Watch You Eat That?"

In one "Kimmy" episode, the stress of Jacqueline Voorhees' (Jane Krakowski) divorce makes her want to eat her feelings but without the calories, so she asks Kimmy to eat a burger in front of her.

She must have picked up that behavior from Jack Donaghy, who liked to watch people eat red meat in front of him while he was recovering from a heart attack early in season two of "30 Rock."

5. Bad Doctors

One of the funniest recurring characters in "30 Rock" history is Dr. Spaceman (Chris Parnell), who is the go-to physician at "The Girlie Show," despite his blatant incompetence. He once claimed that "medicine is not a science."

Meanwhile, "Kimmy Schmidt" introduces us to Dr. Franff, an unattractive plastic surgeon, played perfectly by Martin Short.

6. Werewolves

One of the best cutaway jokes in "30 Rock" involved a song performed by Tracy Jordan (Tracy Morgan) called "Werewolf Bar Mitzvah" (fun fact: Donald Glover wrote the song):

Jenna Maroney also played a werewolf during her days on "Night Court":

In "Kimmy Schmidt," lead character Titus finally gets his big acting break playing what else but a singing werewolf waiter.

Here's how Netflix got Tina Fey's new show 'Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt' from NBC

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt

In November, it was announced that the new Tina Fey-produced comedy "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt" would move to Netflix from NBC before it even aired.

After the surprising move to a streaming site from a network, Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos is explaining why Netflix picked up the show.

Sarandos told Vulture that after NBC worried "about the time of the year" the show would be released (March) and the lack of "a complementary program to launch it with" he got a phone call:

We got a call from Tina Fey and from Dave Miner to come to New York. We came up literally on the last day of production, watched some of the shooting. Met with Tina and the team, heard what they were planning, and said, 'Look, if you can work it out with NBC, we'd love to do it.' And within 12 hours, we'd seen nine of the 13 episodes. And within four days, the deal was done.

The show, starring "The Office" actress Ellie Kemper as a woman who escapes from a doomsday cult and starts life over again in New York City, is produced by "30 Rock" duo Fey and Robert Carlock. The two have a longstanding relationship with NBC.

tina fey ellie kemper nbc"This was a strange opportunity where, usually when shows don't make it, sometimes it has very little to do with the quality and it has everything to do with the time slot, the lead-in show, the time of year it came out," Sarandos told Vulture at the Gotham Independent Film Awards in December. "It was probably one of the most remarkable developments of the last couple of years in television."

NBC boss Robert Greenblatt was also on board with the swap from network TV to the streaming site, saying in a statement: "While it was originally developed for NBC, we have a very drama-heavy mid-season schedule so we're thrilled about this Netflix opportunity; it's an instant win-win for everyone, including Tina, Robert, and Universal Television. We're already talking to these extraordinary creators about new development for NBC, but meanwhile, everyone here from Universal Television will do everything possible to see that 'Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt' becomes a long-running hit on Netflix."

"The very construct of 'Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt' — its offbeat premise, hilarious and rich characters, and serialized storytelling — make it a perfect Netflix comedy series,"adds Cindy Holland, VP of original content at Netflix.

While most of the "Kimmy Schmidt" episodes now streaming on Netflix had already been shot for network TV, a few extra raunchier jokes were able to weave their way back into the show after the move.

Netflix chief communications officer Jonathan Friedland says that now the show "is a little saucier."

Specifically, star Jane Krakowski tells Business Insider, "I think they did go back and try to breathe some of the jokes that we either cut for time, is what we've heard from Tina and Carlock. Jokes that didn't make it past some of the censors made it back in. Now that we have that freedom."

WINNING 'BACHELOR' COUPLES: Where are they now?

the bachelor chris soulesIt's hard to believe, but "The Bachelor" has now been on the air for more than a decade.

ABC's hit reality series just wrapped up its 19th season earlier this week when Iowa farmer Chris Soules asked fertility nurse Whitney Bischoff to be his wife.

When "The Bachelor" launched in 2002 it was a hot watercooler discussion, critiqued for putting personal relationships so openly into the public eye and for allowing one man to date multiple women at once to find his "one true love."

Despite that, the show has become one of ABC's best-performing shows producing multiple spinoffs like "The Bachelorette" and "Bachelor Pad," and serving as fodder for other network series.

After 19 seasons, what has become of the many bachelors?

Shocker: The majority aren't with the winner they fell in love with over the course of a short few months.

While Soules and Bischoff are still together, the series' track record for successful relationships is six for 28 across every season of the two "Bachelor" shows.

Season 1: Management consultant Alex Michel picked Amanda Marsh, but didn't propose. Instead, the two dated for a nearly a year before Marsh broke up with him after reportedly learning he was keeping in touch with runner-up Trista Rehn.

Michel later became a spokesperson for Match.com and produced and starred in YouTube video, "Our Very First Sex Tape."

Trista was then featured on the first season of spinoff "The Bachelorette" and married firefighter Ryan Sutter.

There's a bidding war for 'Seinfeld' streaming rights and it could top $90 million

The entire "Seinfeld" series may soon be available to watch online.

According to the Wall Street JournalSony Pictures TV is in the process of shopping the show rights to digital buyers, including Hulu, Amazon, and Yahoo. The deal is expected to be done in the next few weeks.

WSJ noted on Friday: "The deal could fetch a price well north of half a million dollars per episode. There are 180 Seinfeld episodes."

That could put "Seinfeld" streaming earnings over $90 million, on top of the already reported $3.1 billion in TV syndication revenue the show has earned since 1995.

Seinfeld kramer gif
While Netflix acquired "Friends" last year from Warner Bros. for more than $500,000 per-episode, a source told WSJ that Netflix is "taking a pass" on "Seinfeld."

The exact price of the "Seinfeld" deal will depend, in part, on the length of the deal.

According to WSJ: "The 'Friends' agreement with Netflix runs for four years, which may be too short for some of the 'Seinfeld' bidders. One suitor said a price tag higher than 'Friends' doesn’t make sense if the contract is for less than ten years."

Not that "Seinfeld" creators Jerry Seinfeld and Larry David are hurting.

Larry David Jerry SeinfeldIn 2013, Seinfeld was named Forbes' highest-earning comedian for the third year in a row thanks to syndication royalties of the show and an estimated $27 million from more than 70 stand-up tour dates that year alone. Seinfeld's net worth is estimated at around $800 million.

Larry David, the co-creator and executive producer of "Seinfeld," recently discussed his wealth on "60 Minutes."

Post-the "Seinfeld" syndication deal, David's net worth was around $900 million.

When David and his wife of 14 years divorced in 2007, his fortune (no matter what it was exactly) was halved, thanks to California divorce laws. Today, the TV creator-comedian-actor's net worth is reported to be about $400 million. On "60 Minutes," Charlie Rose said David's net worth is closer to $500 million.

Larry David Laurie David

But David vehemently disputed rumors of his net worth to Rose during the segment.

In a clip available only on the CBS website, David insists "the figures that I read about the amount of money that I've made are so ridiculous, and it's absurd. It's unseemly, I don't have that kind of money!"

"My wife took half of it in the divorce," David confirmed.

When Rose asked if that was because he is generous, David responded, "No, that's the law."

Rose then asked if he would have preferred to have given her less, to which he replied: "Perhaps, who knows. No, after what I put her through I want her to be happy. It's not an easy job to be with me. I don't think of other people."

Getting back to his net worth, David says he finds the reports of his finances "embarrassing."

While he says "I honestly don't know" how much "Seinfeld" has earned in syndication, David admits, "I have a lot of money" but still says "the figures out there are crazy."

Rose tried to press David on an exact amount, telling his interview subject that he was worth "more than $500 million."

"Are you talking about me personally? Are you kidding me? Again, that's just nuts," replied David. "No, it's not [$500M]. And mind your own goddamn business."

This isn't the first time David has publicly denied his alleged net worth.

In 2011, he told Rolling Stone:

I don’t have anything near what I’m reputed to have. My wife got half of it, the whole thing is ridiculous, and yet people are obsessed with the fact that I’ve made millions of dollars from syndication.

It's okay for all these other people you've interviewed to have it, but not me? Jerry's not getting asked about how much money he has. Only I am. It comes down to, 'Jerry deserves it, he starred in it, you got lucky!'… It doesn't suit me, that's why, it's uncharacteristic for a person with my personality to have it, that's what's askew, right? Something's off, and I agree with you. I shouldn't! It's an anomaly!

David said that as he grew richer he developed an allergy to caviar, which "was the perfect metaphor for my life."

Celebrity Net Worth notes of David's massive fortune:

The real windfall came when Seinfeld was sold in to syndication to Columbia Tristar. The day Seinfeld was sold into syndication Larry earned an estimated $650 million. Add to that his prior personal fortune of $30 million plus all the money he has earned since starring in Curb and Larry is a very happy man. Another great annuity for David has been the periodic releases of Seinfeld DVD box sets. Every few years a new season is unleashed to a frenzied public with a huge marketing blitz. DVD sales can easily add another $40-50 million to Larry's bottom line.
