Netflix's first Marvel series "Daredevil" will be streaming sooner than expected.

The streaming site announced all 13 one-hour episodes of the series will premiere April 10, 2015 at 12:01 a.m.

The series will star Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock, the lawyer who eventually becomes the crime-fighting superhero.

Deborah Ann Woll ("True Blood"), Rosario Dawson, and Vincent D'Onofrio also star.

"Daredevil" is one of several Marvel shows set to premiere on Netflix which will ultimately lead up to a miniseries on the Defenders comic series.

The "Daredevil" announcement was part of a larger release in which the streaming service announced the premiere dates for several upcoming new series including Tina Fey's "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt" and Kyle Chandler-starring "Bloodline."

Marvel and Netflix also released a new poster for the series showing off the familiar "Daredevil" logo. Check it out below.daredevil poster

Netflix Has No Plans To Tell Us How Many People Watch Its Shows And They Shouldn’t

house of cards season 2 frank underwood

Netflix has shaken up the way we watch television with its original programming series ranging from Emmy-winning “House of Cards” to “Orange is the New Black.”

However, no one really knows how many people are watching these “successful” series.

Don't plan on finding out any time soon.

Chief content officer Ted Sarandos told reporters at the TV Critics Association (TCAs) press tour Wednesday the streaming service plans to keep those numbers secret for as long as possible.

“It has no reflection on our business in any way,” said Sarandos. “I know it frustrates you, but we’re going to stay away from it for as long as we can.”

According to TheWrap, Sarandos explained it wasn't necessary for the site to reveal show viewership since they don't have advertisers like television networks do.

Netflix reports it has a total of over 50 million subscribers in nearly 50 countries.

Knowing that number, it’s easy to see why the media and competing online streaming services and television outlets are anxious to see how many people are tuning into online content.

At the same time, it seems like it would be a difficult task to measure Netflix viewing. It’s not as if shows air at any one given time. The beauty of Netflix is that you watch whenever you want.

While there is surely a subset of diehard bingewatchers, not everyone is tuning in at 12:01 a.m. to stream 13 new episodes of “House of Cards.” Even more aren’t going to watch them straight through. While some may finish a season of “HOC” over the course of several days, others may want to spread out the experience over several weeks.

In some ways, its difficult to ascertain how ratings would even matter if we knew them. Trying to compare viewership on a premiere day for “HOC” to a popular network or cable series like “The Blacklist” or HBO’s “Game of Thrones” is an apples to oranges case. There’s really nothing to compare Netflix viewership against.

For this reason, it makes sense why Netflix may be eager to keep viewership to themselves.

If Netflix wanted to show some sort of viewership, it could easily display a counter on movies and television series showing how many times something was streamed similar to YouTube.

At the end of the day though, I'm not even sure if ratings really matter anymore (other than to advertisers).

We see good shows get cancelled all the time because of poor ratings. Poor ratings have become synonymous with “bad show”; however, I often hear one of two things from viewers after new shows are quickly axed: “That was a show?” or “I didn’t even know that was on the air" which suggests some low-rated shows may be missed by consumers who are fed an over-saturated television market.

Over 20 new shows launched fall 2014. Eight of those were cancelled, and a few others are toss ups to likely be axed.

While all of Netflix’s original series aren’t as hyped and talked about as “OITNB” and “HOC,” the streaming service has yet to cancel one of its shows.

And, though millions of people may not be tuning into the premiere of "House of Cards," Netflix is revolutionizing the way we watch television regardless.

The Craziest Show On Television Returns This Weekend

$

banshee lucas hood"Banshee" may be smashing network records at Cinemax, but it still hasn't hit mainstream audiences. This may have something to do with its dreaded Friday night timeslot or the fact that Cinemax is a premium cable channel in significantly less households than HBO.

The testosterone-fueled series from Alan Ball, creator of HBO's "Six Feet Under" and "True Blood," seems to have been relegated to "guilty pleasure" status. "Banshee" enters its third season this weekend, and while many acknowledge the show is totally ludicrous, that's exactly what makes the series so fun.

"Banshee" opens with our protagonist (Anthony Starr) walking out of prison after a 15-year stint for what we later learn was a botched robbery. He immediately tracks down his ex-lover/partner-in-crime and discovers that she has since become a completely new person with a new identity and family to boot.

The unnamed criminal treks all the way to Amish country in Banshee, Pennsylvania, to find her, but once he does, she tells him to stay out of her life. This leads our hero to a local bar to drown his sorrows, and the only other patron at this bar just so happens to be the new Banshee sheriff, who starts the job the following day. Some thugs with horrible luck decide to rob this bar, and after a spectularly violent sequence, the new sheriff as well as both thieves are dead.

In a moment of fleeting stupidity/total genius, our mysterious drifter takes the dead sheriff's credentials and assumes his identity, effectively becoming Lucas Hood, sheriff of Banshee, Pennsylvania. As of the end of season two, his real name still remains a mystery.

banshee lucas hood fightIf that mini-synopsis makes "Banshee" sound like the pulpiest, kitschiest show on television, that's because it is. What starts as a flimsy plan to win back his woman winds up cutting way deeper as Hood learns that Banshee is a town full of dirty little secrets and takes it upon himself to legitimately patrol the town. What may read as convoluted on paper works on screen due to the show's frenetic energy and total disregard for political-correctness.

Alan Ball and showrunners Jonathan Tropper and David Schickler seem to believe that crafting impressive action sequences and graphic sex scenes are more important than all else, and in this case, I'd argue they're right. Fortunately, the characters that inhabit Banshee are all fascinating and given just enough backstory to allow the audience to really connect.

There's Carrie Hopewell, Hood's old fling and the entire reason he came to Banshee in the first place; Kai Proctor, the evil mastermind (of Amish descent) on the top of the Banshee food-chain; his niece Rebecca; Alex Longshadow, a Native Kinaho; and Job, Hood's flamboyant right-hand-man who is to "Banshee" what Lafayette is to "True Blood." Ulrich Thomsen's performance as villain Kai Proctor is easily the most compelling part of the show — you'd be hard pressed to find anybody as crazy as he is anywhere else on television. He steals every scene he's in and truly earns his horrifying reputation time and time again.

Once connections between the Amish community, the Kinaho tribe, and all the relevant players are made explicity clear, the show really takes off running and moves from one terrific setpiece to the next as Hood tries his best to both protect the town from the evil mastermind who essentially runs the town and deal with his own demons. Eventually, Hood's past comes back to haunt him when his two worlds collide.

"Banshee" is an exercise in excess — the sheer amount of violence, sex, and evil in each episode is astounding. The show is so ridiculously over-the-top that it borders on absurd brlliance. Before you know where one completely crazy subplot is going, another one even more off-the-wall pops up.

banshee14_36

The action on "Banshee" is more well-choreographed and satisfying than the majority of major motion pictures. There's one particularly bloody fight scene from episode three in which Lucas Hood scraps with a MMA fighter for what feels like 15 minutes. This sequence is so memorably brutal and encompasses the philosophy of the show that it can act as a litmus test for whether or not someone will enjoy the series.

Empirically, "Banshee" shouldn't work as well as it does. The dialogue can get a bit hokey, and some of the big action sequences go too far even for the standards set by the series. From my brief description, it may sound like a violent misogynist's wet dream with little artistic merit, but there's more to it than that.

The beauty of the show is all in the execution. Ball knows his way around crafting entertaining television, and as the show progresses it's hard to not get wrapped up in all its eccentric, visceral glory.

"Banshee" returns to Cinemax this Friday night. The first two seasons are currently available to Cinemax subscribers.

Bryan Cranston And Aaron Paul Will Not Be In Season 1 Of 'Better Call Saul'

If you were hoping for a cameo by Bryan Cranston or Aaron Paul on "Breaking Bad" spin-off "Better Call Saul," don't get your hopes up.

"Better Call Saul" executive producer Peter Gould confirmed Walter White and Jesse Pinkman won't appear in the first season of the show during a panel for the new show at the Television Critics Association Saturday (TCA).

"We want this to really stand on its own," said Gould, according to Hitfix. "We don't want to mislead people into expecting something that's not going to happen... Having said that, everything else is on the table."

According to Los Angeles Times reporter Stephen Battaglio, star Bob Odenkirk joked he asks about Cranston every time he comes into the office of the show.

"Has Walter White called yet," Odenkirk recalled.

It was also noted during the panel that Pinkman's character, played by Aaron Paul, would be in late middle school or high school at this point.

Creator Vince Gilligan told press that doesn't mean we won't see other characters from "Breaking Bad." However, you'll never see a character cameo just for the sake of a cameo.

Via Hitfix:

"Any of these characters from 'Breaking Bad' could theoretically appear in future seasons, but our hope is that when they do, it'll feel proper and organic. If it feels like a stunt, then we in the writers room have done something horribly wrong," said Gilligan.

"You also don't want to have the detail in the background distract you from what's going on in the foreground," he added. "We're trying to keep our eyes on the prize."

"Better Call Saul" takes place six years before Bob Odenkirk's lawyer Saul Goodman ever meets Walter White and his meth-making partner Jesse.

better call saul mike As for Cranston and Paul, it's not impossible to see them somewhere down the line on "Better Call Saul." Odenkirk told us a while back he'd love to have both of them on the show even if it meant in a background cameo.

"I don't know whether their characters matter that much or if we just need to hire you know Bryan and Aaron to walk behind me at the golf course or walk across the street when I'm driving my car around town. I don't know if they'll engage with the story, but they could," Odenkirk previously told Business Insider.

aaron paul bryan cranston breaking badThough we won't see Walter White this season on "Better Call Saul," Cranston will be on set of the new AMC series directing a future episode.

Cranston previously directed three episodes of "Breaking Bad"— "Seven Thirty-Seven,""No Más," and 2013's "Blood Money." We're looking forward to it.

"Better Call Saul" premieres on AMC Sunday, February 8 at 10 p.m.

It Took 5 Minutes For Amy Poehler To Fall In Love With Her 'Parks And Rec' Character

Tuesday, January 13 marks the premiere of the seventh and final season of "Parks and Recreation."

In leading lady Amy Poehler's recently published memoir, "Yes Please," she describes the moment she fell in love with her character Leslie Knope.

Prepare to have your heart melted.

In early 2008, Poehler was readying to leave "Saturday Night Live."

Michael Schur, who cut his teeth in the writing room of 30 Rockefeller Center and went on to write and produce the American reboot of "The Office," called to ask if she was interested in working on a show that he and producer Greg Daniels were creating.

At the time, the series — still a nebulous idea — was rumored to be an "Office" spinoff. They talked vaguely of concepts, and agreed that it would be fun to work together.

By the time the series' premise came together, Poehler was pregnant. Schur decided to pitch her anyway. "Greg's and my general feeling was: Poehler or bust, pregnancy be damned," he writes in the footnotes of Poehler's book.

Schur called again, this time from the balcony of his house while chain-smoking. Poehler writes:

"He told me about a character he and Greg created called Leslie Knope. She was an extremely low-level Parks and Recreation Department employee who had big dreams. She was inspired by the 'Yes We Can' spirit of Obama's recent election. She believed that it only took one person to make a difference. She wanted to effect change, she wanted to someday be president, but most importantly, she wanted to turn an empty parking lot in her town into a park."

amy poehler, leslie knope, parks and recreation

Soon after Poehler received the script, she said "it took five minutes to realize Leslie Knope was the best character ever written for me."

After a long discussion with then-husband Will Arnett, she moved her family out to Los Angeles and shot six episodes in a row. "Parks and Recreation" went on to become one of the most beloved female-lead comedies of the last decade, earning five Emmy nominations.

Looking back at Leslie's journey, Schur reflects, "It's so interesting to think about it this way, now, as we near the end — it was, at the beginning, really that simple: a woman who wanted to make something out of nothing."

The final season of "Parks and Recreation" premieres Tuesday, January 13 at 8 p.m. ET on NBC.

'Breaking Bad' Fans Will Love 'Better Call Saul'

better call saul goodman

“Breaking Bad” spinoff “Better Call Saul” premieres on AMC next month, and it’s everything you could possibly want from a spinoff of the hit series — musical montages that pull at your heartstrings, cameos from some of your favorite Albuquerque natives, and plenty of Saul trying to talk his way out of trouble.

We’ve previewed the first two episodes of the spinoff series featuring lawyer Saul Goodman (Bob Odenkirk), and hands down, it's one of the best midseason premieres we’ve seen so far.

There’s an incredible amount of payoff for fans of the original series, with subtle nods and references to the parent show. For those of you who may be groaning and rolling your eyes, don't worry. The show doesn’t overdo it. If you're not looking for the references, you most likely won't even see some hidden in plain sight.

It is absolutely imperative that you do not miss the first minute of the series. "Better Call Saul" opens with a brilliant black-and-white sequence. It may throw you off at first, but once it’s revealed where the scene is heading, fans are going to lose it ... in a good way. I cannot emphasize how much I’m looking forward to fellow “Breaking Bad” fans' reactions online, so don’t tune in late.

The series itself follows Saul in 2002, six years before he has ever met Walter White and before he’s the big-shot criminal lawyer we’re introduced to in “Breaking Bad.” There’s no trace of sidekick Heull and Goodman’s not driving around a fancy Cadillac DeVille (though there’s a nice reference to it in the opening episode that fans will notice).

Instead, Saul is a down-on-his-luck lawyer just trying to get by. He’s not the confident, cocky counselor we’re accustomed to seeing. He doesn’t even go by Saul Goodman at this point. He’s just Jimmy McGill, a lowly lawyer hungry for clients who drives around a Suzuki Esteem.

better call saul car

Odenkirk never misses a beat. He’s so energetic as the spritely McGill, you could just sit and watch him talk the entire time he's in a courtroom, hashing it out with twin teenage boys or trying desperately to save his own skin. You don’t even need to know what he’s necessarily rambling about because, to be honest, no one else probably does either.

Here’s a line of dialogue from him as he’s representing a teenager: “Do you remember 19? Let me tell you. The juices are flowing, the red corpuscles are corpuscling. The grass is green, and it’s soft, and summer’s going to last forever.”

Do you know what a corpuscle is? McGill's talking about red blood cells.

It’s Saul’s usual bull, filled with grand hand gestures and priceless facial expressions, but it's not winning over many at this point in his career. better call saul bob odenkirkOne of the best parts of the premiere is a reintroduction to former characters like Mike Ehrmantraut (Jonathan Banks), Gus Fring’s right-hand man on “Breaking Bad.” Mike is still the sarcastic, wisecracking curmudgeon fans love, but instead of waving around a gun, the former Philadelphia police officer is working as a pretty harmless parking-lot attendant at the local Albuquerque courthouse.

He and McGill go back and forth a bit in the premiere, and we look forward to seeing their inevitable future interactions on the series.

better call saul mike More interesting are the glimpses of Jimmy McGill’s backstory and his relationship with his older brother Chuck (Michael McKean), who is suffering from an illness.

It’s easy to see from the pilot that “Better Call Saul” is going to be a show about the rise and fall of Jimmy McGill, as much as its parent series is about the rise and fall of meth kingpin Walter White.

bob odenkirk better call saulSo it makes sense that the show not only feels a lot like “Breaking Bad," it also looks a lot like it. Gorgeous visual shots take you back to the streets, deserts, and skies of Albuquerque, New Mexico (especially in the second episode). Some of the shots literally remind us of scenes from "Breaking Bad." (Sorry, no screengrabs.)

As we know from "Breaking Bad," creator Vince Gilligan has a way with closeup montages. Expect to see more of those on screen, from sweet treats getting baked in black and white to tomatoes getting sliced and diced.

In terms of content, the first two episodes also feel eerily similar to the early episodes of “Breaking Bad.” In "Breaking Bad," Walt and Jesse take a man captive, tie him up in a basement, and then discard his body. No one dies in the first two episodes of "Better Call Saul," but the parallels between the openings of the two series are a little uncanny.

That's both good and bad. Since it's a prequel series, you know the stakes are a bit lower for some characters — Mike's not going anywhere — yet "Better Call Saul" still has the ability to fill you with excitement and laughs at one moment while tearing the rug out from under you in the next so that you're rocking back and forth in your seat, a bundle of anxiety-ridden nerves. In some ways, the show feels like something we may have seen before.

Does the pilot episode stand up to that of “Breaking Bad”? No, but, to be fair, I don’t think many premiere episodes do.

The episode is a little slow at points, but when Jimmy runs into two young teens who try to scam him out of $500, the action starts to pick up, and the final minutes of the premiere will have you glued. The very final shots will make you wish you didn't have to wait an entire day to see what happens next.

It'll be worth it. The second episode, which airs the following evening, is pretty much nonstop action. I can't say much about it without spoiling anything, but there's one repeated word that should quickly catch on and be a big hit. You'll know it when you hear it, and it's sure to be all over Twitter.

"Better Call Saul" premieres on AMC Sun., Feb. 8 at 10 p.m. before moving to its regular timeslot on Mon., Feb. 9 at 10 p.m.

Here's The Moment 'The Office' Cast Knew The Show Had To End

the office

"The Office" ran on NBC for nine seasons, and even devoted fans can probably say that the sitcom started to show its age after a while.

Even one of the show's central characters can attest to the fact that the cast collectively knew it was time to say goodbye to "The Office" when they were filming the ninth season, which ultimately ended up being the final season of the series.

Rainn Wilson, who played character Dwight Schrute, spoke about his experiences on the popular NBC show at the AOL Build Speaker Series on Tues., Jan. 20. Moderator Joshua Horowitz asked if there was a tipping point for the series, when the cast knew it had to end.

"That's exactly what happened in the final season of 'The Office,'" he answered. "We all ... me, John [Krasinski], Jenna [Fischer], Ed [Helms], especially ... were like, 'This has been fantastic, I love this job, I love you all here, it's time for this show to end."

"We went into Greg's [Daniels, showrunner], the producers' office, and were like 'let's end, lets make this the final season a great send-off,'" he added. "I think every single person was just really ready to end. We did 200 episodes. We had a great time."

Even though Wilson was ready for the show to end — and that much talked-about Dwight Schrute spinoff never came to realization — Wilson doesn't take it for granted. "I'm really spoiled," he said. "Because it's the greatest work experience ever."

Sony Music Execs Are Worried That Their Emails May Be Leaked Next

Michael Lynton Sony

Until now, Sony Entertainment's movie studio side has been most affected by the Sony hack stemming from the release of "The Interview," but it sounds like Sony Music may be the hackers' latest victim.

"Top executives at Sony Music are bracing for more embarrassing e-mails to leak as part of the Sony hack after their boss — Sony Entertainment CEO Michael Lynton — called to offer a 'blanket apology' in advance of any details that come out," sources told Page Six.

Industry sources further told Page Six that Sony Music honchos are most concerned about details of artists’ salaries and contracts  including live performance riders  being made public.

Beyonce madSony artists who may be affected by leaked emails include BeyoncéAdele, David BowieMeghan TrainorBarbra Streisand, and Bruce Springsteen

Additionally, recently leaked emails alluded to a potential "top secret" sale of music publishing division Sony/ATV. Lynton and Sony/ATV head Martin Bandier have both denied Sony Music is for sale, but Lynton reportedly "called a number of department heads within Sony, including Marty and [Sony Music CEO] Doug Morris to give a blanket apology in advance for whatever else comes out,” added a PageSix source.

Sony had "no comment" on the PageSix report, but a Sony source tells Business Insider that Lynton "did not make a blanket apology, he only called two top executives about a couple of very specific issues."

In December, Sony president Steven Mosko and co-chairman Amy Pascal had their email inboxes made public by a group of hackers calling themselves "Guardians of Peace."

As a result, salaries of both celebrities in Sony movies and Sony employees were revealed. Not to mention a few salacious exchanges about A-list celebrities and even President Obama.

American officials have concluded that North Korea was "centrally involved" in the Sony hack and intelligence officials told the Times that the US intelligence community "concluded that the cyberattack was both state-sponsored and far more destructive than any seen before on American soil."

Here's What Convinced Rainn Wilson To Do Another TV Show After 'The Office'

$

backstrom rainn wilson"The Office" ran for nine seasons on NBC. That's a long time for a television show. So long, that actor Rainn Wilson was initially averse to acting in another TV series.

He told the following anecdote at the AOL Build Speaker Series on Jan. 20:

"I was finishing up 'The Office' in the final week, and my agent called, and they were like, 'we want you do read this script,' and I was like, 'okay,' and they said it was a TV pilot, and I was like, 'you're fired.'"

He was joking about firing his agents, but he wasn't kidding about how much it was going to take for him to do another television series.

So what ultimately convinced him?

A good script, a rich character, and a seat at the producer's table made it an enticing choice for Wilson.

"The part was insane," he said. "...Interesting and complex and difficult, and I was like, I have to play this role."

backstrom rainn wilson

The series is based on Swedish author and criminologist Leif G.W. Persson's books about a nasty, boorish detective, Evert Bäckström (changed to Everett Backstrom for the American television series). The books are incredibly successful in Scandinavia.

Wilson was initially approached to do the series not long after "The Office" bowed in 2013. At that time, the series was set to air on CBS. However, after the network passed on the series, it eventually landed at FOX.

Ultimately, Wilson got a "nice year off," as he puts, it before filming the 13 episodes.

It also doesn't hurt that this time around, he's not just a featured player. He's the titular character and also a producer on the show, with showrunner Hart Hansen, Persson, and Persson's Scandinavian literary agent, Niclas Salomonsson, acting as executive producers.

"I [wanted] to have a place at the table ... a lot of the time as an actor, you're left out," he said.

"Backstrom" premieres on Fox Thurs., Jan 22 at 9 p.m.

Here's How 'The Office' Star Rainn Wilson Defines Himself As An Actor

Rainn Wilson Dwight Schrute The Office

In Hollywood, it's easy to get typecast.

Just ask Rainn Wilson.

The actor often plays outlandish characters, like Dwight Schrute on "The Office," and Detective Everett Backstrom on his new Fox series, "Backstrom," which premiered on Fox Thurs. night.

But he doesn't see himself as so limited.

When asked if he considers himself a "character actor" or a "leading man" at an AOL Build Speaker Series event, here's how he defined his acting style:

I come from New York City. I went to NYU. I did theater here for 10 years before I did any film or television, and I always thought of myself as a character guy ... but I think any theater actor thinks of themselves as a character actor. You're asked to ... play a a lead here, a comedy there, a drama there, and Shakespeare here, an experimental theater [piece] here, a Neil Simon thing here, and it's very diverse. You transform yourself to become the character in the best way possible and entertain and tell the story. So, I still carry that with me.

Wilson went on to describe how Hollywood often divides actors into labels, but he doesn't see himself falling into any of those categories.

backstrom rainn wilson

"In Hollywood, it's very much like 'He's a leading actor. He's a character. This is a guest star actor. This is a television actor, he's a film actor.'" says Wilson. "Everyone has labels. Kind of like a card around their chest, what kind of actor they are."

"I'm just an actor-actor," he said.

Danny Trejo Would Love To Reprise His 'Breaking Bad' Character On Spinoff 'Better Call Saul'

danny trejo breaking bad la tortuga

Danny Trejo is best-known for his roles in "From Dusk Ill Dawn" and "Machete," but one of his most memorable parts was early in "Breaking Bad" when he played cartel member Tortuga (Spanish for turtle).

Business Insider briefly spoke with Trejo about the show's spinoff series, "Better Call Saul," and whether he'll be checking it out.

"Absolutely," Trejo says. "I was Tortuga!"

Fans know things didn't end so well for Tortuga on "Breaking Bad," but that doesn't mean he couldn't have another life on the upcoming AMC series.

The show will bring a few other former "Breaking Bad" alumni back from the dead including Mike Ehrmantraut (Jonathan Banks).

When pressed if there's any chance of seeing him reprise his character, Trejo let out a laugh, but did say he would love the opportunity to appear on the spinoff.

"Oh sure, are you kidding? I loved that show ['Breaking Bad']," Trejo added, saying it was one of the best things he had ever been a part of.

Trejo gave a similar response to Uproxx:

"I’d love that! … Tortuga was pretty popular, so I’d love it. Let’s see what happens.”

The prequel series, starring Bob Odenkirk as lawyer Saul Goodman, will take place six years before the events of “Breaking Bad.”

"Better Call Saul" premieres on AMC Sun. Feb. 8 at 10 p.m.

The Unlikely Story Behind The Two Greatest Scenes On 'Parks And Recreation'

$

0

leslie knope, ben wyatt, parks and recreation, wedding episodesAsk any fan of "Parks and Recreation" to name their top five favorite scenes and surely, one of the following will rank among them.

Season 5, Episode 505 "Halloween Surprise": Where Ben proposes to Leslie.

Season 5, Episode 514 "Leslie and Ben": Where the couple say their marriage vows.

Critics regard these two scenes as some of the sweetest, most romantic moments in television history. They perfectly encapsulate Leslie's quirks, Ben's sincerity, and the powerful magic of spontaneity in a relationship.

(You can watch the scenes below.)

In Amy Poehler's new book "Yes Please," the leading lady reveals the heartbreaking event that led to the writing of those two scenes.

Season 5 kicks off with Leslie visiting Washington, D.C., where Ben set up a surprise-meeting with her ultimate crush, Vice President Joe Biden.

The cast and crew, including the show's creator and head writer Michael Schur, filmed the scene with Biden in his ceremonial office on the grounds of the White House. Poehler says he charmed them all, and didn't even flinch when her character leaned in for a kiss.

As they were walking out of the building, the high from their brush with the VP came crashing to a halt. The cast and crew learned that their show, which had been talked about as a front-runner for winning the Emmy for Best Comedy, didn't even get nominated.

Schur, who cut his teeth in the writing room of 30 Rockefeller Center and went on to write and produce the American reboot of "The Office," didn't let the snub get him down. Instead, he turned to his peers and announced, "I am going to go write the scene where Ben proposes to Leslie."

He went back to his hotel room and wrote the script for these ...

Watch Ben pop the question.

And see Ben and Leslie tie the knot.

In a recent interview with Yahoo! TV, Schur says he wrote both scenes under the impression that the show would be cancelled. That is why they offer so much closure.

Schur admitted to having written five or six series finales over the course of seven seasons — one for each time "Parks and Recreation" wasn't guaranteed a renewal. "We did it midway through Season 5, and then again at the end of Season 5," Schur says. Then, "we got our back-nine order, so we just kept going."

Still, the feeling of impending doom spawned TV-marital-bliss.

"Do you see what kind of maniac I am working with here?" Poehler teases in her memoir. "I have been shoulder to shoulder with a wonderful writer and excellent boss who loves big emotion as much as I do. Nightmare!"

The real "Parks and Recreation" series finale is Tuesday, February 24. You bet we can expect more happy endings from the old sap, Schur.

Everything You Should Know About 'Better Call Saul'

bob odenkirk better call saul

"Breaking Bad" spinoff "Better Call Saul" is coming to TV in Feb. and it's probably one of the most-anticipated new series of the year.

We've already seen it, and "Breaking Bad" fans should really enjoy it.

So it shouldn't be a big surprise the series has already been renewed for a second season.

If you can't wait for "Better Call Saul," but need to know a bit more before the show's premiere, here's everything you need to know about the spinoff.

Is this a prequel or a sequel?saul goodman breaking bad

The majority of the series is set in 2002, six years before Saul ever met Walter White. However, the show definitely has some elements of a sequel, too, as viewers will see in the premiere's first frew minutes.

So, yes, you'll get to see what became of Saul Goodman after he left Walt and Jesse Pinkman.

When we spoke with Odenkirk a while back while he was doing press for his Oscar-nominated film "Nebraska," the star told us he wanted the show to be both a prequel and sequel. It looks like he got his wish.

Who will star in the spinoff?

Here's who's joining Odenkirk on the series:

Jonathan Banks will reprise his role as Mike Ehrmantraut.

jonathan banks better call saul

Michael McKean will play Saul's older brother Chuck who is a partner at a law firm in Albuquerque.

better call saul chuckPatrick Fabian plays Howard Hamlin while Rhea Seehorn ("Whitney") stars as Kim, two lawyers at Hamlin, Hamlin & McGill.

better call saul hamlin kimMichael Mando ("Orphan Black") plays a criminal named Nacho Varga.

better call saul michael mando

So, what will this be about?

bob odenkirk james mcgill saul goodmanThe show will follow Saul Goodman before he's the cocky, confident lawyer, when he's just known as Jimmy McGill.

McGill's strapped for cash and drives a rundown car. He's trying to make a living as an honest attorney. What should follow in the series is how McGill goes from a scrappy, hungry young lawyer to a well-known name in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Why did Saul get his own spinoff?

bob odenkirk better call saulThe show has been in the works for a while in the "Breaking Bad" writers room. Creator Vince Gilligan told Hitfix it kind of started off as a joke.

It started as a lark, which is another word for joke, in the writer's room. It started and it really came from the fact that I love working with Bob, just as we love working with really every actor on “Breaking Bad.” But we also loved the character. We love writing for the character. We love putting words in his mouth. And we had so much fun indeed doing that that it started as a lark; we'd come up with some great term or phrase and we'd laugh about it in the writer's room. And then we'd say, 'You know, when we're doing the Saul Goodman show we'll be able to blah, blah, blah, blah.' And we made that comment so many times that it started to dawn on us that it wasn't a lark; there was truth to it. It was not just a joke, but a potentially good idea.

If I like "Breaking Bad," will I enjoy it?

better call saul carI think you will. From what I've seen in the first two episodes (I'm waiting out to watch the third at the moment), there are plenty of nods to the original series while not feeling forced.

You'll see a few familiar faces including Jonathan Banks, and the visuals and montages will feel straight out of "Breaking Bad."

However, don't go into this show wanting another "Breaking Bad." You'll be disappointed. This will be its own show, focused on Goodman, er Jimmy McGill's, growth into a sleazy criminal lawyer. At this year's Television Critics Association press tour, co-creator Peter Gould has said they're not going do nods to the previous show and bring back former characters just because they can do it.

"We're trying to make something that stands on its own, that has an entertainment value that's not just seeing a series of old favorites, or 'Remember when?' It's not the series equivalent of a clip show,"said Gould. "We try to balance these things out."

When will it air on AMC?

"Better Call Saul" will premiere Sun. Feb. 8 at 10 p.m. after the mid-season return of "The Walking Dead."

After that, it will head to Monday nights at 10 p.m. starting Feb. 9.

The season 5 trailer for 'Game of Thrones' has leaked

9 highlights from 'Game of Thrones' actress Maisie Williams' Reddit AMA

maisie williams game of thrones

Maisie Williams is known for playing Arya Stark on HBO's "Game of Thrones."

During a Reddit AMA on Fri., Jan. 30, the 17-year-old actress provided fans with ample information — even if she couldn't give away any spoilers for season 5. (But you can watch the leaked trailer here!).

Here are seven great things we learned about Maisie:

1. She didn't realize "Game of Thrones" was big until Season 3.
Maisie explains: "At the season 3 premiere, we went to the Chinese Theater in Los Angeles, and stepping out of the car, with hundreds of people screaming my name, is when I realized that this show completely changed my life. It was very, very daunting - I found it quite scary - but it happened gradually, so I had time to get used to it."

2. Rory McCann (The Hound) is similar to his character... sort of.
arya hound game of thrones season 4Fans loved the Hound and Arya's wandering duo in Season 4. Williams joked, "Rory is quite similar to The Hound before breakfast, in that, if he hasn't eaten, he's kind of grumpy! haha! But I love 'im regardless."

The two do a have a real-life rapport, too. "We are very close friends. I saw him when I was at the SAG awards at the week-end, and it was really nice to see him again, and I hope that's not the last I see of him," says Maisie.

3. She might be playing Ellie in the film adaptation of the popular apocalyptic videogame "The Last Of Us."
ellie last of usShe wrote, "THE LAST OF US movie is in very early days. I have spoken to powerful people who are getting THE LAST OF US on its feet. And I'm hopeful that I can play Ellie in the future, but we'll all have to wait and see."

4. If she could play anyone on Game of Thrones, it would be Cersei.
cersei game of thrones"I would love to play... Cersei," she wrote. "because she's badass."

5. Here's who she thinks should sit on the Iron Throne.
bronn game of thrones"Ehm - I think... Bronn (Tyrion's left hand man) would do a really good job?" Why? "Cuz he's funny!"

6. She would like to keep acting after "Game of Thrones" ends.
Game of Thrones, Comic Con Panel"After 'Game of Thrones,' I'd love to continue in television, and I'd love to move on to movies as well." She wrote. "I don't really know what I want to do? But I think that's quite cool, because I'm only 17 and I don't have to decide yet. But definitely staying in performing."

7. She hasn't read the books.
"...And I didn't read them before I got the role," she wrote. "I do want to read them but I'm going to wait until the season is finished. But I can't wait to see what really happens to Arya! Yes!"

8. This viral scene happened because she was watching funny videos on her phone.

When asked if there was every a time that she couldn't stop laughing on set, she replied, "The one time was in series 3, episode 8 [note: this was actually in season 4], when I was supposed to laugh anyway - when Arya cracked up laughing at the news of her dead aunt - and I was watching funny videos on my phone, so I giggled endlessly, and they liked it, and so did the audience."

9.SEASON 5 TEASER ALERT! Arya will get emotional in season 5.
She said, "There's actually a scene in the coming season... which was my most difficult scene to film. And I think fans are going to be really excited about it. More emotional than we've seen Arya in previous seasons."

Fans will definitely appreciate that, since we have watched Arya develop from an innocent girl to a hardened fighter and killer. What's in store for her next?

Season 5 of "Game of Thrones"premieres on Sun., Apr. 12 at 9 p.m.
