We know movie studios and television networks are secretive when it comes to preventing leaks for movies and shows, but Marvel takes the secrecy of its Netflix series to the next level.
During an appearance on “The Late Late Show” with James Corden, "Daredevil" star Jon Bernthal, who plays Frank Castle/The Punisher, revealed what it's like working with "the Marvel machine," as Corden referred to it.
"It's a machine. They're secretive. It's a secretive bunch," said Bernthal. "They have signs posted all over the soundstage, everywhere you go. Marvel security: 'If you see something, say something.'"
Bernthal pointed out that's the same phrase the Department of Homeland Security uses.
"There's little pictures of the Hulk ... like the Hulk will get you if you see something and don't say something," he joked.
Bernthal said he understands the level of secrecy the show maintains. He went on to explain an instance where he got in trouble with Marvel.
"Pretty early on I was walking through the streets of New York and I saw a large African American man, probably about 6-foot-five at least 300 pounds, and he was wearing a shirt that said Castle. It was a basketball shirt and had a Punisher skull emblem on there. And I took a picture of it ... I thought it was really cool."
But that wasn't cool with Marvel.
"I took a picture of it and I got in big trouble because they said people could think that that was me," Bernthal explained. "That's the costume."
Bernthal thought it was pretty clear that the man in the photo was not him.
"I'm like, that is a 6-foot 5' black man. That is not me," he said.
Corden agreed that that seemed crazy.
Don Cheadle, who plays War Machine in the Marvel films (and who was on Corden's show as well), said he has also had to watch what he says to others.
"I've started to tell certain things before and then the red dots ..." at this point Cheadle started mimicking the red dots of sniper rifles pointed at his body. "So I just cut that out."
The clip hasn't been added to YouTube, but you can catch the moment during the 25-minute mark of "The Late Late Show" on CBS.com.
Season two of "Daredevil" is currently streaming on Netflix.
