After an international teaser leaked online earlier this week, AMC released the official season finale teaser trailer for "The Walking Dead," giving fans their first glimpse of the show's next big villain, Negan.
Jeffrey Dean Morgan is joining the cast as the fan favorite from the comics who has been teased throughout season six.
His entrance into the comics is a pretty iconic scene in itself. I've talked about it a bit here, but his entry in issue #100 results in a big character death.
The episode trailer shows off the first image of Negan from behind wearing the character's iconic leather jacket.
It also shows off the character's weapon of choice — a baseball bat covered in barbed wire called Lucille as he says "Hi, I'm Negan."
Here's an idea of how he looks in the comics:
Creator Robert Kirkman hinted to Entertainment Weekly that while we'll be seeing the scene play out, fans shouldn't expect to see a direct adaptation from the comics.
"But something as well known as that moment — maybe it would seem like it wouldn’t be a great thing if we did an exact sort of thing just because people might be expecting it,"Kirkman told EW. "All I want to say is, read the comic, but you’re not going to know what to expect. Part of the reason that that moment was such a big deal in the comic is the fact that you did not expect that it was going to happen, and so we’re very confident that we found a way to keep it as unexpected in the show as it was in the comic. So it should be just as intense, just as heartbreaking, and just as shocking."
Yeah, so this shot of Lucille tinted in red probably isn't good if you're familiar with the comics.
Negan's big entrance will come Sunday, April 3 during the show's 90-minute sixth season finale.
