This past Sunday HBO's "The Leftovers" capped off an A+ second season with a gem of a finale, but what many of us had been waiting for was word on a renewal for season three. When asked about when we could hear word regarding season three of "The Leftovers," Damon Lindelof told TVLine, "If you are a fan of 'The Leftovers,' let should let your voice be heard." Coincidentally, in the AV Club's review of the finale Joshua Alston proposed "a fan campaign in which we dress in all white and silently smoke outside HBO’s corporate headquarters in Manhattan."
It looks like some fans took that seriously.
Variety reports a group of "Leftovers" fans have dressed up like the Guilty Remnant, aka the all-white everything, chain-smoking squad who wrecks havoc in the show, forcing people to "remember" the Sudden Departure while only communicating via Sharpie-written words on a pad. These dedicated fans took to the streets of New York City, posting up outside of HBO's headquarters to smoke cigarettes, hold up small signs that say things like "RENEW," bringing a stray observation to life.
As of the time of this writing HBO hasn't confirmed the status of a third "Leftovers" season, but we can only hope that the IRL Guilty Remnant's silent protest gets heard loud and clear.
