As his first post-"Mad Men" project, Matthew Weiner is directing a season-four episode of longtime friend Jenji Kohan's "Orange Is the New Black."
Marking the first time Weiner has helmed a project he didn't write (he directed nine "Mad Men" episodes and the 2014 feature "Are You Here"), the Emmy-winning showrunner joins Jodie Foster, Nicole Holofcener and Allison Anders as directors on the Netflix series.
The episode is currently filming and an on-set source tells THR that Weiner is “loving it.”
THR caught up with Laura Prepon at the Hollywood Foreign Press Association/InStyle Golden Globes soiree on Nov. 17 and the OITNB actress confirmed that she filmed a scene with Weiner at the helm the weekend prior.
“We filmed a huge day on Sunday, and a lot of directors might have been overwhelmed by that, but he wasn’t and he knew exactly what he wanted to do. With a huge cast like ours, when you have a director who knows exactly what they want, it makes everything go a lot smoother. I love Matt — he’s awesome" she said.
When pressed for additional details about Weiner’s episode or plotlines for the new season, Prepon passed. “I will get in a lot of trouble,” she said. “But I can say the fans are going to love it.”
