As a result of uproar over its "Man in the Castle" ads on New York subway cars, Amazon is set to pull the promotion.
“Amazon has just decided to pull the ads,” Kevin Ortiz, a spokesman for New York City Transit and the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, told Variety on Tuesday.
The decision was made as Mayor Bill de Blasio made a statment asking Amazon to remove the ads, Gothamist reported.
"While these ads technically may be within MTA guidelines, they’re irresponsible and offensive to World War II and Holocaust survivors, their families, and countless other New Yorkers.," de Blasio stated. "Amazon should take them down."
The promotion was supposed to continue through December 14.
Business Insider reached out to representatives for "Man in the High Castle" for comment.
As BI previously reported, Amazon wrapped some subway cars on New York City's Shuttle line between Times Square and Grand Central with images of the US flag with a German imperial eagle and iron crosses on one side and Japanese rising-sun flags on the other.
