Al Roker filed a complaint with the New York City Taxi and Limousine Commission after he claimed he and his 13-year-old son were passed by a taxi whose driver then proceeded to pick up a white man.

The 61-year-old "Today" show weatherman documented the incident, first tweeting: "Filed a complaint today after getting passed up again by a NYC Yellow cab. Cabbie picked up a white guy a block away. Wonder why Uber wins?"

Roker noted in his next tweet that "this happens to people of color every day," acknowledging that "while most cabbies do their job, there are those ignorant, racist ones who hurt the others."

When contacted by The Hollywood Reporter, the NYC Taxi and Limousine Commission confirmed that Roker had filed a complaint.

"We've already been in touch with Mr. Roker and ID'ed the driver," said Allan J. Fromberg, deputy commissioner of public affairs for the commission. "We're in the process of finalizing the penalty and the driver will face significant monetary fines for his inappropriate behavior."

Fromberg told THR that the penalty for such an infraction typically ranges from several hundred dollars to revocation of license depending on the driver's record and history with the commission.
