Stephen Colbert dares Donald Trump CBSStephen Colbert challenged Donald Trump to donate $1 million to charity after harping on the real-estate mogul and Republican presidential hopeful's "riches to richer" story on "The Late Show" on Wednesday night.

With Trump now trailing Ben Carson in the polls, Trump has begun pushing the narrative that he has always been an underdog. In a recent interview on "Today," Trump explained how he built his fortune not from nothing, but from a paltry $1 million loan from his father.

Colbert went on to recount Trump's uplifting tale, moving from Queens to the unfamiliar world of Manhattan, traversing "the stormy seas of the East River with nothing more than a million dollars in his pocket and the shirt on his back — the other shirts were still at his tailor," Colbert cracked.

Thanks to "hard work, perseverance, and an accountant well versed in bankruptcy loopholes," Colbert said, Trump molded himself into the benevolent billionaire America loves. So, Colbert asked Trump to return to "The Late Show" and sign a ready-made $1 million check for the Harlem Children's Zone. Even the memo was filled out: "No big deal."

"Now Mr. Trump, all you have to do is come here and sign it, proving that a million dollars really is a small amount of money," Colbert quipped. "Especially when it's helping other people get a start in Manhattan. Who knows, the kids you help might one day be so rich they can blow their cash on a presidential campaign."
