NBC had decided not to go forward on its reboot of popular 90s comedy "Coach," an individual with knowledge of the decision told Business Insider.
Creative differences between the producers and NBC led to the decision, Deadline reported.
Apparently, NBC gave producers at Universal Television the go-ahead to shoot the pilot. The new show finds Coach Hayden Fox (Craig T. Nelson) joining his son to coach an Ivy League school's football team. Written by the original series creator Barry Kemp, the pilot reportedly received a mixed response with some saying it felt dated.
The creative issues became too much for NBC. According to the report, Nelson will be paid for the full 13-episode order. His co-stars – Andrew Ridings, Morgan Smith and Malcolm Barrett – will be paid for just the produced pilot episode.
Universal TV is reportedly shopping the project around to other networks and outlets.
